I joined Primal just over 18 months ago and it's made me faster, stronger and leaner than I've been in the past 10 years! I can now deadlift more than twice my body weight, jump further on one leg that I used to be able to on two and I’m running my 10m flying sprint 0.33 seconds quicker.

When I first started training with Mat I had been suffering from a recurring back injury which had a pretty hefty impact on my day to day life. Following regular physio treatments and using a tailored programme designed by Mat to protect my back whilst strengthening my core, I was back up and running in no time.

Mat's imaginative and energetic approach to coaching is what gets me in the gym, whether it's first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Each session is innovative and framed around what I need to work on, building not only strength and speed but conditioning key muscles and joints to reduce the risk of injury. As I'm pretty accident prone, this has been a huge help! 


If you're struggling with an exercise, Mat always finds new ways or techniques to make it easier and make sure you're doing it properly.


I'm always surprised to look back at what I couldn't do at the start of the programme (press ups for example) and what I can achieve now (up to 8 on a good day!)

The focus is always on ensuring we're in the best shape possible for our games so if we're not 100% fit or just having an "off day", Mat works around that using recovery programmes and less intense, shorter sets of exercises.

The atmosphere in our Sports Performance SGPT sessions at Primal is great as well - I genuinely enjoy every session. I didn't join to make friends or for the social element really, I just wanted to get in and do my stuff, but before I knew it, I'd found new gym buddies too! Can't ask for much more than that!
