The safety of our members, staff and anyone with whom they may come into contact is our top priority. This page contains everything you need to know about the way in which we're managing our business in light of the pandemic.
Update on: 15/10/2020
Following the latest update from the Government, in which the new "three tiered system" of local Covid Alert Levels was introduced, there are no new changes to our opening hours or services at Primal.
As it stands, Leeds is in the ‘High’ middle tier, which means that people from different households can't get together indoors but can now mix outside, including in parks and private gardens, as long as it's in groups of less than 6 and everyone stays 2 metres apart. Businesses including gyms are remaining open and exercise classes remain exempt from the "Rule of Six" as long as hygiene and social distancing measures are being met, which they are at Primal.
If we were to move into the "Very High" alert tier, the main facilities that would be closed are pubs, clubs and restaurants. Further closures, such as leisure centres and gyms, would be looked at on a region-by-region basis.
Everything else in our previous updates still stands and we are still following all these measures vigilantly at Primal, with the addition of a "track and trace" scan code at reception. There has been no change to the situation with masks - they are not compulsory to use in gyms but if members wish to train in a mask, that's absolutely fine.
Update on: 23/09/2020
We're delighted to announce that some our most loved classes are back on the schedule, and we've even added a couple of new ones:
Primal Conditioning - a dedicated class for dedicated people looking to get their sweat on.
Primal Blitz - a 30 minute conditioning blitz attached to the end of our Strength & Conditioning Classes, which can be attended straight off the back of S&C or done as a stand-alone 30 minute cardio blast.
Primal Movement - a 30 minute session focusing on mobility and movement. The perfect opportunity to regenerate after a tough week of training or work on your flexibility and range of motion.
Boxing Conditioning - starting with eight places only so we can keep to social distancing measures. Please bring your own boxing gloves as we cannot provide shared gloves under current conditions.

Please note, this move toward a more regular schedule of classes in no way reduces the need for every one of us to maintain the necessary safety standards we've established at Primal over the last couple of months. We are still following all the health and safety measures outlined in the previous update and we are all still taking responsibility for our health and attendance at the gym, and that will not stop.

Outlined below are the measures we've implemented in order to meet the Government Covid-19 safety guidelines:
The Government guidelines for capacity are primarily determined by square footage and ventilation. For Primal Gym, that means we’re allowed 100 people in the gym at any one time but due to the nature of our functional training methods and equipment layout, we want to allow more room for our members to train the way they want. Our current capacity allows for around 40-50 people in the gym at any one time - 10 in each class, 25 in bookable solo training slots, 6 in each SGPT session, any one-to-one PT sessions and our staff. These sessions have all been staggered to help avoid bottlenecks in the gym. You can find the full timetable here.
Opening hours have been reduced for the time being and are currently split into sections that reflect our busiest times:
Monday - Friday: 6.30am - 9am | 12pm - 2pm | 5pm - 8.30pm
Saturdays: 9am - 1pm
Outside of these hours, the gym is closed. We will review regularly and increase the opening hours as soon as we are able.
To ensure we're adhering to capacity and social distancing requirements, we are asking all members who wish to train alone to book in for their solo training sessions. There are several slots available on the timetable for booking in the mornings, at lunchtimes, in the evenings and on Saturdays. We ask that members do not attend the gym for a solo training session unless they've booked into one of these slots. There is a maximum of 25 places in each slot and we ask that, for now, members don’t book more than one slot per day so we can make sure everyone has a fair opportunity to use the gym.
Waiting Lists & Cancellations
We’ve put a waiting list of 10 on each class and solo training session to enable us to track demand as people feel more confident returning to the gym. This means it’s really important now, more than ever, for members to cancel any reservations they're unable to fulfil, so someone else on the waiting list to take your place.
For those members who don’t feel ready to return to the gym just yet or perhaps want to do a mixture of in-person and online training, we are running two online classes per day - one at lunchtime and one in the evening. These are bookable via the app or class timetable. If you are not currently a member but would like to access our online classes, click here to purchase a one day, three day or seven day pass.
Health & Safety
We’re going to great lengths to ensure the gym is as safe as it possibly can be for our members to use and our team to work in. This involves us following certain protocols, including:
Sanitisation of any equipment used before and after each session
Staff washing hands regularly
Protective screens at reception
Provision of sanitising materials all around the gym
Health and safety guidelines posted in and around the gym
There are a number of steps we need our members and visitors to take as well, each time you come to use the gym:
If you feel ill or have any symptoms of Coronavirus, please do not come to the gym for 14 days. Contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Before entering the gym, make sure you’ve completed a Covid Questionnaire at reception and please allow us to conduct a hands-free temperature check. If you are advised not to train, please cooperate.
Once you’ve entered the gym, please wash your hands with the sanitiser provided.
At the beginning of your session, gather all the equipment you need and, where possible, remain in one area of the gym while training. If you do need to use a wider area, please maintain a 2 metre distance from others.
At the end of your session, wipe down any equipment you’ve used with the sanitiser provided and return it to its place.
Maintain social distancing at all times - keep at least 6 feet away from others and avoid physical contact.
Wherever possible, please get changed at home. The changing rooms are open and the lockers and toilets available for use but the showers and sauna are out of use for now.
